There is an unrestored,  57 Country Sedan Wagon for sale locally and the seller is claiming it has a 312 motor. I know on the 56 wagons, the first letter in the VIN describes the motor and in 56 "P" designated a 312 motor. The first 4 letters/numbers on this 57 data plate are D7PX. So is it a 292 or a 312?

D is a 245 HP 312, but who knows what's in it now.

It looks like the original motor to me. It has the correct exhaust manifolds, but is missing the carb. Thanks for the response Cliff!

Rono.  In trying to verify that it is the original engine (without checking the rear crank flange, the bore, or the crank main caps) look to see IF it has the
- G heads (all 272, 292, & 312 without the supercharger used them;  suggests original application)
- engine block casting number ECZ 6015-C (all 292 and 312 '57 blocks used this casting number;  suggests original application)
