"I nave a 1954 Vicitoria and am in need of rebuild kit. The problem is I not sure what type of Diff. it is, what stock diff was in 54 ring gear - measures 8 in. but did they make a 8in. in 54"

Do you have it out and dis-assembled?

Maybe this will help -  https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239745

Here ya go. Doesn't look like they have kits but they do list side gears, etc.

I'm currently installing an 8.8 (well it's ready and beside my garage, winter project along with front discs) in my 56. My first thought was a Mustang,Comet, Maverick, etc 8" but decided on something more modern. The 8.8's were started in the 80's and still being made. I had it narrowed and spring perches welded to the exact spec as a 56. The only problem is they are now built for OD equiped cars so new 3.08 and 2.80 are no longer being made new. 90% have rear disc brakes but mine has Mustang 11" drums. The shop that did it also makes a standard Ford yoke so the the stock flat circle is gone. I also had them drill a hole for the TEE brake fitting and axle vent in the stock 56 Ford spot.
There are You Tube videos showing the narrowing and brake fitment of the 8.8. It looks like my stock E brake will work with slight modification.
I'll probably Craigs List my complete when done. The gear shop that did mine says there is some value in it since it was used from 49 to 56.

It's a Ford 8" but it's unrelated to the later 8" diffs. I've tried in vain to find who the supplier was, possibly it was Spicer. The usual suspect old Ford parts suppliers have bearings and seals but thrust washers, etc. are pretty much made of unobtainium since Joblot Automotive closed up. If you just need bearings and seals try Mac's Antique Auto, Eckler's, Dennis Carpenter to name a few. Also eBay may turn something up. Beyond that you may be better off adapting a later 8" or 8.8" out of a Ranger or Explorer. Parts are widely available and you'd have a better choice of ratios.
