What is the Vin code for a 312 in a '56 Fairlane. It is easy to find for a TB, but not cars. J

Thank you.  I did not want to assume that the code crossed over from Thunderbirds to Fairlanes.  Will be checking out a possible 312 Fairlane tomorrow, and trying to get my facts all in order, to verify.  Joe-JDC

Well, after driving 280 miles to look at another 312 Fairlane, it turns into a M code, but the seller swears those thunderbirds on the fender makes the engine a 312.  LOL  Joe-JDC

Yeah, I get that all the time. Funny, I think 56 Thunderbirds had 292's also... The real rare one would be a Fairlane model with a 272 which I believe used the Y8 emblem like the 55.

I never saw any Fairlane model when I was growing up that didn't have the bird. How would it be to find a glass top 56 Crown Victoria with a "A" letter and a 223" 6.

Talking about a crown with a 223, a friend of mine has a 56 scrub convertible, 6 cyl, three on the tree with absolutely no power assists

Yes, I spoke with a guy recently that thought he had a 312 years ago, because of the Bird on the fender & the 4 Bbl carb it had. This was a Canadian built car... However, a buddy of mine had a 56 Victoria, c/w the Red Bird markers on the fenders in the early 60s & when the motor was pulled it was a 292"  It came with a 4 Bbl & dual exhaust..

You never know what oddity might turn up in a barn someday, but no '56 Fairlane or wagon ever left the factory with a 272--at least not in standard US production. It was either a six, the 292, or the 312. So the Y-8 emblem appeared on the front fenders of Customlines and Mainlines, (and, it seems, Couriers)...but the red T-bird-shaped emblem was reserved for V8 Fairlanes and wagons and for Customlines and Mainlines with a 292 or 312. Frankly I wish Fairlanes and wagons could have been ordered with the 2V 272--wish my Squire had it, with a single exhaust, instead of a 292 and the annoying teapot and so much pipe. Of course there would have been that hot #$%&ing crossover pipe to deal with... .

I never found a 56 64B with a 6 cyl,  but i did find a 55 6 cyl 64B, believed to be the only 6 cyl 55 Glass top ever built. I missed buying it and from what I heard someone from the Crown Vic club bought it and pulled the engine and replaced it with a 292.
I did come across a 56 Parklane station wagon with a 6 cyl, all the paper work since new. At the time I saw it , it was a good original needing only minor work which was being done.
