Jack,  you can reach me at the following:   joedvick at swbell dot net.  Use symbols for  at and dot.  I opened the throttle bores up to 1.500" on all six venturi, and then radiused the bottom of each throttle bore towards the ports.  I ported the runners all the way into the bottom of the plenums and out to the flange to match a Fel Pro intake gasket, but have opened them up to John Mummert's intake gasket size.  If you port the manifold yourself, you need to keep the exit as close to stock as possible, but open up the inside of the runners and make the turns with as big a radius as possible.  Try to keep the port walls as parallel as possible on the sides and top to bottom.  A slight taper to the ports helps speed up the airflow if you can manage that.  I always start deep in the ports and work my way out to the flange.  That way I don't mess up the mating surface and I work the interior as large as I need it and taper it to the port exits.    I use 1/2", 3/4", 1" carbide round ball cutters with diamond cut to make the turns into ports as large and smooth as possible.  I use fluted carbides, and diamond cut carbides on 6" shafts for shaping the ports, and cartridge rolls of various grits for final shaping and texture.  I flow test each port for flow and try to balance each port as close as possible within reason.  I have special adapters that I made to test intake manifolds on my SF 600 Flow Bench.  
The ported 573 with the Stromberg 97 Big Bore carbs did indeed make more torque than a ported Mummert and 750VS Summit carb on the dyno test.  It made more horsepower up to 6200 rpms.  I would like to optimize the jetting on both systems for another comparison, but will hopefully do the testing on a much stronger engine in the future.  Joe-JDC  PS it is Craine

Joe Caine wrote a great article on dyno testing various tri-power combinations.  He talks about his ported Edelbrock 573 manifold which worked a lot better than the out-of-the box manifold..  So I have a couple of questions.  1)  Does anybody know how I can get a hold of Joe Caine who I think may work for Ted Eaton Balancing (no, I cannot figure out how to send an email to Ted Eaton)  or 2)  Does anyone know how to port an Edelbrock 573??
