What is the make-up of the aluminum casting? We have an aircraft restoration nut that works for us and he has done some wonders with ancient parts - welding grinding and so -on. Maybe get a deal on something that looks bad and have it repaired. I have one of the factory "D" manifolds that has an almost undetectable repair...... it was talked about in the negotiation to buy so the seller didn't hide it from me. Passed a dye penetrant exam.

"I had a look at the Manifold I was interested in. Going to pass. Lot of deterioration on the Outlet where Thermostat Housing bolts on. I think it would be difficult to get it sealed so it doesn't Leak." The trouble with aluminum engine components is the acidity of the coolant as a result of electrolysis which actually eats the aluminum. The coolant has to be changed regularly to prevent this. BTW- The EDEL FM257 is the 8V manifold released for the 57/ heads. I forgot to mention that on the other post.

I didn't mean to correct anyone... Just thought I would show how EDEL PN's used to run.

EDELBROCK- The FM255 was designed for the 55/56 cylinder heads- FM = FORD-MERC | 2 = Two Carb | 55 = 1955 Release Year The M254 was released for the 1954 MERC 256- M = MERC | 2 = Two Carb | 54 = 1954

The 255 did the best in Ted's test. So it's very likely the best 2x4 intake there is. I would argue that it is the top for "stock" form since the Hogan was down 28 ftlbs with only a 2hp gain. Maybe tied for 1st in ported form, with the 257.

The FM255 has smaller ports than the later Edelbrock as it was made for the 255 Merc. Personally I feel it would work fine on any 272, 292 heads. They had plenty of meat to port match. A smaller port intake usually works better on street engines because of the added velocity thru the intake port when the valve first opens. To me the key to its use would be the smaller Carter WCFB's small base which are a direct bolt on. I use them on mine with progressive linkage and could not be happier. It can use the stock valley cover which also helps. Finding 2 matching carbs is getting tougher but doable. Adapters and AFB's would not be my choice unless you could get 400cfm's. eBay gives you an idea on value. Also check other engine brands like Olds, Cad, & Buick. For some reason most are about the same as the Ford-Merc for value. If I were considering dual quads for the street I would not let it get away.

Hers the link to Ted’s dyno runs on 2x4’s. The FM255 only shows up on the aluminum heads, but you can go back and compare the iron head test and reach some sort of conclusion. No idea on pricing. http://www.eatonbalancing.com/2014/01/17/y-block-ford-dual-quad-testing-on-aluminum-heads-part-ii/

There's One of these for sale locally. Dual 4 bbl. Are they hard to find and what are they worth?
