My 56 Ford has an automatic transmission. There is an indicator that tells what gear the transmission is in. That indicator is red in color and it sits behind a plastic piece that has P/R/N/D/L. Behind that plastic piece is a background that was some color originally. I'd like to know what that color was? Sounds silly, but someone had removed the small indicator metal piece and painted the background a rust color for some reason. I found a replacement for the indicator, but have no idea what the color should be? Black, perhaps? Thanks for any help Jim

Mines flat black, I added the white and green dot when I installed the 62 medium case cruise-o-Matic.
