I am trying to get the P/S Control Valve off to get it rebuilt. Having Trouble getting the Stud out of the Steering Arm. Won't move with just trying to knock it out with Hammer as per Shop Manual. Stuck real good. Any Suggestions that anyone else has found Successful? You can't use Heat because of the Rubber . Thanks

I have ordered One of these. Don't really want to take a chance on damaging the Valve Assembly. The Shop Manual is kind of simple- use a Hammer. Tried that and no good. Thanks. 

  

The model with the adjustable jaws is the most useful. If you bought cheap CHINESEIUM model, make sure you wrap with shop rag and wear safety glasses while using. Lube thread well, apply pressure gradualy and give a few love taps and it should loosen. 1956 was a long tome ago, even for me.

Sometimes you can borrow or rent from a box-store.

I never liked to use BFH or pickle forks. Too easy to cause $$$ damage.

Thanks for the Heads Up. Tried to borrow either One. No Luck. Ordered from Amazon so if it Craps out back it goes. I don't like using a Hammer for this and I think a Pickle Fork may just damage the Housing.Let U know how it works out.

  

If your going to rebuild it yourself (it's pretty ez using the manual, I did it after 2 by others failed) purchase what are called "quad" seals. I bought them from a guy in Northern California. That was 6 yrs ago and they have never leaked again.
The was an episode on Wheeler Dealers where Ed China fixed a control valve leak on a Thunderbird and used the same seals. He did it on the car.

They look like an upgrade from regular O Ring Seals but without an accurate ID, OD, and thickness its hard to Identify exactly what Seals You used. Got any #'s or?
