It's a 62-64 car/truck engine. 😞

The engine has probably been replaced since it has 2 dip stick tubes.  It's probably from a truck and could be the reason that the pan won't come off but i don't know if a truck pan would fit at all.  The large drain plug suggests that the engine is from an earlier vehicle.
The link from NoShortcuts will help you figure it out.

Skyhunter.  The y-block identification number on your year vehicle is located on the driver's side of the engine block above the oil filter.  IF the engine block was cast during the '59 model year before May of 1959, the casting ID will be EDB 6015-E.  IF the engine block was cast in May of '59 or later, the engine block ID will be B9AE 6015-F.

The reason for the difference in the engine block ID was Ford engineering made the decision to increase the length of the bolts used to secure the crankshaft main bearing caps to the engine block.  It is believed that this was done to prevent cracks developing in the engine block main bearing webbing.  This manufacturing change in the main cap bolt length was continued through the production of y-block engines during the 1964 model year and for service blocks supplied thereafter.

The cylinder heads used on '59 Edsel 292 engines were the same as those used on '59 312 Mercs.  The casting ID numbers on the cylinder heads are located adjacent to the ends of the two barrel intake manifold where it bolts to the cylinder heads.  The numbers 113 are at one end of the intake manifold where it bolts to the head, and the numbers 5752 are at the other end of the intake manifold where it is bolted to the cylinder head.

Click the link below for the engine block casting ID information on John Mummert's Ford Y-Block.com web site.

Hope this helps!   Smile

Link from here to John Mummert's Y-block site & to his engine & cylinder head I.D. site. Your block # if original will likely begin B9AE xxx.. cylinder heads may be marked in the corners, 5752 & 113, or ?..

Sorry if this has already been answered but I can not find how to do a keyword search on here only a page number.

I have a 59 Edsel.  It has a 292 in it.  What I don't know is how to identify it.

I followed the shop manual to take the oil pan out but it will not come out.  Seems a bit too big to clear the cross member.  Also the oil pan has an inch and an eighth drain nut (seems rather big).
The block also has two dipstick tubes.  One on the front and another on the side of the block mid way that someone long ago pinched off.  It is not to the tranny.

So what am I looking at?
