Anyone have an idea where I might get a new or good used gas tank for a '54 Mercury Sun Valley? I had to replace the sending unit in my tank and I was able to get a good look inside. The bottom of the tank has a lot of rust flakes and crud and I think it is only a matter of time before I have a plugged gas line.I know I can take the tank out and have it cleaned and sealed but I think I would rather replace it. I looked all over the net for a replacement tank but no one is making them. One of the guys I called told me that a '55 Ford tank can be modified to work in a '54 Merc. Does anyone have any experience with that? I would rather have a good '54 replacement but I would try something else if I have to. Any ideas?

I have a 54 merc gas tank  came from a 2 door hardtop. I need to look at it again, its been a couple years since I stored it..

NO  they will not interchange, 52-54 Merc only
