I have had some experience with rebuilt control valves and although they are all similar, there are differences from year to year.  Control valves are similar on American Motors and Studebaker models in the 50's and early 60"s but they are not the same.  I found a guy in Texas who seems to know his stuff.  I sent him a pump and control valve from a parts car that was pretty nasty.  I was thrilled with his work.  http://www.stangerssite.com/steeringsysteminfo.html  this is a link to his site.  The site could use some technical fine tuning, but He seems to know his stuff.

After 2 failures from a shop I decided to repair it myself. I found non stock seals called "quad" seals on the Internet. Ed China, the tall guy on TV from England actually installed them on a 55 T-Bird in the car to stop it from leaking on one episode of his TV show..
I opened a Ford manual and did it on my bench obviously out of the car. It has not leaked in 4 yrs. I followed the instructions in the manual the only change was the new seals from the original style.
You need to measure stuff under the car before you start because as you drive these kinda sit in a neutral spot and when turning pressure from the steering wheel moves the device inside to assist you.
There were no "new" ones when I did this and the seal kit was around $75 which I thought was high but after 2 rebuilds I just bit the bullet and did it. If you are willing to rebuild a carb you can do this without a problem but IMO you need the manual for your year...good luck

What is involved in stopping control valve from leaking, do I have to replace it  or is it difficult to overhaul?
