Guys, I just found a 302 Y block from a Ford F700 truck. Complete running engine 4 bbl and 5 speed trans (?) for $500. I’m new to Y blocks and see that most are 272 or 292 engines. Is there something I should be aware of with this particular motor? Are performance parts easily available for this motor. Also, is the 336 the same motor but, with a larger bore/stroke ? Thank you for any help

As far as I know Ford never made a 302 y-block. The Fords and Mercs came in 239, 256, 272, 292 & 312. Is it possible the seller made a mistake on the displacement? Or it could be an accurate description of a 292 punched out to 302. Performance parts are available, check John Mummert's website. If it's a running 312 $500 may be a very fair price as there was only a short production run for those. I'm not aware of a 336. There was a 337 Lincoln/big truck engine but it was a flathead.

PS: as a general rule of thumb all y-blocks for sale are 312s until proven otherwise, so caveat emptor. The only way to tell without a bore/stroke measurement is to look at the flywheel flange. If it has an aspirin sized dot cast into it's a 312 crank. The upshot is not all 312 cranks had the dot, just most of them.

The 302 Lincoln/truck engine is from the 317/341/368 Lincoln, 279/302/317/332 HD truck engines family. If you need a HD engine for your large Ford truck it's a good buy, other wise you wold be better off to pass . ( look at the truck and see if it has the "garbage can" fuel filter, that is the same filter used on the "E" and "F" 57 Ford and Thunderbird cars.)

The 332 Lincoln is a larger version of the 302 you found.  It has same stroke but larger bore.. These are very rugged engines used in Ford medium duty trucks up to 1963.  $500 is a good price if you need a truck engine.. The bell housing will bolt to several common standard transmissions. As far as performance parts.. They have steel cranks and a pretty decent 4 bbl intake but that is about it.. They have a gear driven cam which turns the cam counter clockwise, the heads are low compression and have huge 3/8 stem sodium filled exhaust valves plus a distributor and carb with a governor.  Good truck motor but not suitable for light truck or auto without major mods
