I believe some of the heavy duty and/or "Big Job" trucks had an extras deep sump in the oil pan, but the standard trucks had the same capacity as the passenger cars so it will be 4-5 qts depending on that. If you have the factory dip stick I would add 4 quarts and run the motor for a little bit then check the oil level. Also it is somewhat dependent on the type of oil filter you are using. For clearance issues, I run a short oil filter in my 56 Customline. The standard spin on filters and the canister type filters hold slightly more oil.

5 quarts for the standard pan.  6 quarts for the HD pan.  Add 1 quart for each with a filter change.

The standard pan has 3 levels (drops down twice).  The HD pan has 2 levels (drops down once).  Both are more or less wedge shaped.

292 Truck engine held six (6) quarts total, according the '64 shop manual. Keep in mind there were a few different (length) dipsticks for different applications. After 50 or 60 years it's not uncommon for different oil pans and/or dip sticks installed confusing things. So it's entirely possible to have a situation where it shows "FULL" on the dipstick but it's running a quart low.

Even 6 or 7 quarts in stock pan wont hurt anything.
Better get some extra oil in pan if you want rev engine a lot.

Here’s a past thread showing pictures of the various rear sump oil pans.  As mentioned, cars and pickups require six quarts with a filter change while the HD truck pan requires seven quarts including the filter.

Regarding the dipstick and tube, in the '57-'66 truck parts catalog, there are 3 or 4 dipsticks and 3 or 4 tubes with at least one of the tubes being "cut to length".  Figuring in 2 capacities of pans and possible additional dipstick and tube combinations for '54-'56, that's about 32 different combinations at least.  By today, any one of those combinations could be installed.  So it is best to check when you first get the vehicle and make new markings on the dipstick, if necessary.
