When I stopped at a friends house to check on his Y block build I noticed he had a couple of connecting rods that had a Ford logo and part number on one side and ATLAS on the other. I have never seen these before so I was stumped. The engine is from a 61 F100 and had been rebuilt once sometime in the past before he owned it..

Is the "Atlas" stamped into the Rod or is it actually part of the Casting? There is a Company called "Atlas Engine Rebuilders" according to Google. Maybe it was one of theirs?

Have a look at Ebay # 141989763478. My guess is Atlas produced Aftermarket Rods with the Ford # for Identification purposes. What do You think?

Maybe they did make rods using the old FORD tooling, they are identical to a Ford rod, no difference except the name Atlas. Just one of those things that had me baffled..

I do run across a bunch of those rod with the ‘ATLAS’ logo but I tend to believe that those rods are original to the engines as there have been full sets of them in std bore, std journal engines.  ATLAS may have actually been making the rods to supplement what the Ford foundry schedule could not meet.

I agree. It's interesting to learn about some of the "Oddball" facts about Y-Blocks. Interesting too that Atlas is still in Business but looks like they do strictly Diesel Components including Cranks and Rods.
