it does run on highway about 180. in town it runs 200 with electric fan

those temps look good, my Y block runs better at higher temps. if it is not overheating it's not a problem

Why, is your temp going over 200? You should be running at around 180 constant...

Could just be a different impeller design ..

Could be the new pump impeller isn't set in the right place and not letting it pump the coolant like it should.

The biggest misunderstanding about thermostats is that people believe they make the engine run cooler. They don't necessarily do that. The cooling system and load on the engine determines how hot the engine gets, the thermostat fully open will still be the mercy of the coolant system's ability to remove heat.  Your 160 opens sooner as the engine warms up. It doesn't mean it will keep your temp at 160.

put in new water pump from napa now the temp is 10 degrees higher. why.   I have air cond. and need temp where it was before. have 160 thmostat
