If I remember correctly, the 239 did not use a balancer. 55 was the first year. I remember when I did the 312 conversion in my 54, I couldn't use the 54 steady rest as it wasn't designed for a balancer and had to use a later steady rest. I know a lot of guys say you don't need it, but I wanted to have it.

My 239 has a pulley instead of a balancer. It was a car engine. No holes for a puller to go into.

Here is one example of the puller, https://www.amazon.com/TruBuilt-Automotive-Professional-Universal-Harmonic/dp/B010FH1OPC/ref=sr_1_1_sspa/140-0454136-3916706?ie=UTF8&qid=1505486881&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=harmonic+damper+puller&psc=1Google "harmonic damper puller" and "how to use a harmonic damper puller" for more options and info. The puller should also come with instructions.

The type of Harmonic Damper Puller which is available at just about every parts store will work. The installer is the tricky one as you need one with a 9/16-18 adapter, which is less common, but still easy to find, usually ordered online.
