Can the plugged vacuum port on the back of carburetors be used for a vacuum gauge? I want to add a gauge to monitor my engine and the normal ports on the front of my carb are already being used.

Yes. You could also put a "Y" Connector in One of the existing Vacuum Hoses if U did not have an extra outlet. I have a "Motorminder" Gauge next to my Oil Pressure/ Temp/ Voltmeter gauges. They used to have these in some of the mid 60's Models from the Factory. You can get a lot of Information from them and can actually improve your Gas Mileage by watching what the Gauge is showing in various Situations.

I have two vacuum gauges in my ’55 Customline.  The larger gauge is for the manifold vacuum while the other is for the distributor vacuum.
