One thing to remember is the bigger the cam the less the vacuum to run wipers and brakes. Even a cam at 230* at .050 needs a wide center (111 -114) to get 14 or 15 inches of vacuum. The cars got hydraulic brakes so vacuum wont be a huge issue.

Pickins are somewhat slim for cams unless you get a custom grind. I personally feel the E4 is a bit wimpy and since your using a clutch your idle speed is not of great concern. Look into the E2 grind. 452 Lift using 1.54 rockers 113* center Intake open 15.5 , close 61.5 / Exhaust open 61.5 , closes 15.5 Stuff it in at a 4-6* advance and let the fun begin. Oldmics I had wondered if the E2 wouldve been better. May go that route now thanks, local guy here has a isky 505 cam in his and boy does it rip, but hes got much more invested into the build and has built it to the hilt.

Ive been happy with the E4 in mine, 292 T85 and 3.89 gears. I'm confused, in your earlier post you said the engine was together less distributor and now you want to change the cam? Yea figured a better cam for better power? not sure whats confusing on that? I'm just thinking that it sounds like your engine is already assembled? If thats the case it isn't that easy to change the cam, best done when the engine is being built. It was but I've taken the heads off to get worked over, engines on a stand at the moment so installing the lifters wont be an issue.

A_Burly-Wind. IF you do have your y-block engine block all together and are now going to swap camshafts, you're going to live how difficult that is to do with mushroom valve lifters. You may subsequently consider adding to your Forum handle. Best Wishes!

So 2 months later and this is where im standing, The 292 was bored .60 in the rebuild and ive had the heads milled .20 and ported/cleaned up a bit. Put a B manifold on it with the edelbrock 600, new dizzy with pertonix and coil,57 manifolds. And for the tran, ended up with a t85 3spd and the gear out back is a 3.55.. So now im down to the last little bit of putting things all back together and still havent picked a cam. Any one got a good choice for the said build ive got now? Carb may be too big which if it is i will swap it to one of the summits everyone loves. And ive got no opposition to running premium fuel in it. Im leaning towards the isky e4 is that gonna work out good?
