I've been researching the distributor for the '54, I understand it is vacuum only, specific to the original carb and also has a tang drive oil pump. Somewhere I read but haven't been able to verify the number of teeth on the cam. I read the '54 has 13 teeth and the '55 and up is 14 teeth. Any truth to that? THX, Dick

Yes, and a later distributor can be used by changing the drive gear on the distributor. By doing this you will gain some better performance. The Load O Matic distributor and carb were a real mistake. Using a later distributor you can also put on a newer style carburetor. Chuck

Dick, if you change to a better distributor, go for a 1957 on up style. You'll also need to change the oil pump and drive rod.
