my 57 has a dual master which was from a early corvet ,it was cheap from eBay. 2 problems with the duel you have no safety over a single unless the valving is also inst(the shuttle that has a piston that cuts off front from rear or rear from front) when 1leaks. when i install the bracket which allows a larger dual booster will just go back to a single 2bolt master, most likely the merc 1 mentioned as it bolts up to booster but be sure it is the power brake 1 as it fits re piston used short push rod on booster. the 57 and 58 ford brake master and stock booster was not the best re booster under the dash. the bracket i speak of moves the master forward allowing for a decent size conventional booster. decent brakes on 57 and 58 is a challenge.

I used a Pertronix 1 with their coil. I also used my ballast resister which they said it will work either way. I did this because under negative comments I read about Pertronix was always about the coil. I installed it approximately 4 years ago and never a start or run failure. Nice thing with a screw driver and an ignition wrench for the coil nuts you can put back in the stock parts.. Good luck.

56 Roger, would the same '68 master cylinder also fit exactly on the 1955 Fairlane with all drum brakes? Thanks for the advice.

If you have all drum brakes, you should use a master for all drum brakes. These have internal residual pressure valves. The later disc/drum brakes used a separate residual pressure valve.

I am looking for ideas of what dual master cylinder would fit on my 58 Ranchero. I have been musing with converting to dual cylinder as I know my current master cylinder is marginal as it had a few pits in the bore that I could not get out when I rebuilt it. Also while I am at it any power boosters an easy fit?
I am also thinking of a petronix swap not that I don't love points it is just my ole back is not liking the lean so much any more so I am trying to reduce my bend time. I have the distributor with the roller bearing advance plate and the straight arm vacuum can that you put in shims to change the advance curve. Any ideas on the numbers?
Thanks
