A friend  of mine had me go with him to look at a 1954 Monarch Sun Valley.  The Car has had an engine swap to a newer 312!
What I was wondering is,  did the Canadian cars have the same 256 ci engine  that  the American Mercury's  had or did they have the 239 like the Fords engine as original engines?
What are the engine codes for each engine?

Based on what I have read, the Canadian 54 Fords all had the 255 inch flathead

I have a Canadian printout that I grabbed from someplace on the internet. It specs a code for the 49-54 Mercs as using an engine code on the data plate for the 255 L head engine as one of the following, 9C,OC,1C and OCB.

Interesting that the engine is a 256 in the USA and a 255 in Canada.

OK thanks I will check with  the owner of the car and get the  engine codes off the car.  I know the 1954  Fords built in Canada  had the flat head engine.
Every  Mercury and Monarch I have seen had the over head Y block  engine, I know the  Y block was available in the Canadian Mercury For sure.

The flathead Merc engines, as I remember, had 255. something  CI, while the YBlocks had 256.  Not much of a difference.  The flathead Fords and the Ford Yblocks both were 239.

And as far as I know, as I stated above and by Old Mics, the Canadian Fords and Merc's had the flathead engine, not the Yblock. Possible, I guess, that the Canadian Mercs had the YBlock but I doubt it.
