1956 Ford Crown Victoria with 292 V-8. Just installed my rebuilt p/s pump and now my belt (7385 Gates XL - 11A0980) has too much slack even after maximum tensioning, any logical reason for this? Also, I purchased the u-shaped bracket and rubber insulator for the high pressure and return p/s hoses. The bracket has a bolt hole opening on one end and just a lip flange on the other. How and where is this bracket installed? I see 2 bolt holes that appear in the area that it probably should go(on the frame opening for the front coiled spring) but no slot for the lip flanged end. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

slot just goes in one hole, other takes the bolt. pump may have smaller diameter pulley, just change belt.

the bolt holes are too close for what you suggest for the insulator bracket. after further investigation, there are 2 parts to the mounting bracket:  the u-shaped item that I have would be considered to be a retainer which would fit on another item which would be considered a mounting bracket which I do not have.

a photo of the installed bracket would be very helpful.
