Everyone seems to do what works for them. I still like Permatex #2 on one side of many gaskets especially where there is water or oil. I grease the opposite side for easier removal if necessary. When I replaced the intake on mine I didn't use anything around the ports but did on the water holes. The valley pan got Permatex and grease. No leaks in 3 years. Good luck.

Copper coat on the head gasket makes it very difficult to remove the heads in the future.  I'd avoid it unless absolutely necessary.
This is the first time I have used Best gaskets and did what they recommended. Hopefully I won't have to remove the heads in my life time. The engine only has 8,000 miles on it now and I don't put a lot of miles each year.

Thats interesting, I have never heard of using WD40 on the head gaskets. I used the Best gaskets and if I remember correctly they said to use the CopperCoat so I did.

If you have the blue FelPro composition head gaskets, they are the ‘Permatorque’ series and work best with no sealer.  They have a proprietary coating on them that eliminates the need for additional sealer.  Been awhile since I used any FelPro gaskets in a Y build but CopperCoat should work on all the gaskets other than the head gaskets.

For the Best Gasket brand of gaskets for the Y engines, I use white grease for the oil pan and intake manifold gaskets and CopperCoat for the timing cover gasket.  WD40 works well for the Best Gasket head gaskets.

Getting ready for final yblock assembly and curious about best sealers for the different gasket applications throughout the motor? Also is coppercoat spray a wise choice for the Felpro non-steel head gaskets?
