I'd like to change my points distribuitor for a eletronic ignition. My engine is a 292 with Motorcraft/Wapsa distribuitor...

What are the options that fit into my engine?

Thanks!

three ways I can think of quickly......there may be more...

(1) Buy a Pertronics "Ignitor" and follow the directions.

(2) Buy a "donor" Duraspark II Ford distributor, coil and controller and transfer the internals to the y-block dizzy.

(3) Use your "economic stimulous" check and buy an MSD unit that fits directly into the engine.

4.  Buy a Crane electronic conversion for 1/3 less than Pertronix and use the stimulus $ to buy gas.

You gotta have the right tools and know how to use 'em.

Or...#5. Type in "ACCEL 2020" into the ebay search box. This is a kit that will take the points out of your 57-74 Ford distributor. I have one in my 55 292, running a 57 dizzy with 12 volts. Works wonderfully - you talk about spark, this thing's got it. Hpefully this will work in your distributor too.

And...it's less than $30 (that includes shipping!) on ebay right now, brand new. Don't know the seller though.

Thanks for the answers people!

As far as I see, the ACCEL 2020, is the cheapest way, and easy to install to...

The add on e-bay:

My distribuitor is one like these (motorcraft/wapsa):

I wonder if it's plug n' play...

LordMrFord, how did you do it?

Thaks again you all!

If you're talking about the ACCEL 2020 being plug and play, then it's a snap - removal of the old plates, install the new internals, and wire it up. One thing - check to make sure your rotor is seated all the way (new one in the kit). If not, it will rub the cap and not even turn in some cases.

If you're talking about the Lordmrford's distributor being plug and play, it's already snapped!w00t

lol... Yes I was talkin about the Accel kit... BigGrin

But, do you have this distribuitor (link below) there in US?

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u6/lzoega/imagem-3.jpg

Cause, here in Brasil, we also have Fomoco and Autolite, but, I never saw one workin, just hear comments and saw a few pics... The Wapsa/Motorcraft, is totaly diferent, all the parts, size, shape n' stuff... I'm looking forward to buy the Accel kit, but I'm not shure yet, if it's gonna work on my distribuitor...

That is a very different distributer from normal Ford ones.

The points in that distributer are very different from the pre 56 and 57 newer Ford points. It uses the old style Ford condenser with flat copper strip. One big difference I see is that the points has a pivot pin with one screw like the Chrysler (Autolite) points or Prestolite points used on industrial engines and are curved like them also.

If that Accel kit fastens to the distributer the same as the Pertronixs then the 57 up Ford kit on Ebay will not fit. I think you may have to find a Prestolite kit for that distributer or at least compare it for correct fitness.

Did this distributer come out of an industrial engine.

Where was the manufacture of the distributer.
