Easy, with hacksaw. So, all I got to do is to saw my distribuitor in 4 parts? There is a guy here that did a ignition system on his jeep, without the distribuitor cap to get into the water... That is a very different distributer from normal Ford ones.
The points in that distributer are very different from the pre 56 and 57 newer Ford points. It uses the old style Ford condenser with flat copper strip. One big difference I see is that the points has a pivot pin with one screw like the Chrysler (Autolite) points or Prestolite points used on industrial engines and are curved like them also.
If that Accel kit fastens to the distributer the same as the Pertronixs then the 57 up Ford kit on Ebay will not fit. I think you may have to find a Prestolite kit for that distributer or at least compare it for correct fitness.
Did this distributer come out of an industrial engine.
Where was the manufacture of the distributer.
marvYes, in this photo you see a old style condenser, but there is a newer type of condenser that I use now... I'll take a pic later...And about the pivot and one screw, you are right. This distribuitor is the most common on the y-blocks here in Brazil, actualiy, all the y-block engines that I saw until today, were running with this distribuitor... I've sended a e-mail for the Accel thec suport, lets see what they say to... Lucas.

Marvh is right, that ACCEL kit I spoke of will not fit. Tech support could tell you something about it, and whether or not they would have something else, but it is hard enough to get tech support when you live in the US, much less when you live in another country. In the states, we can get a Y block distributor for about $40, and then add this mod for another $30 or so, and then whamo, we got we need. Would that work for you, to get a US style distributor and then go with ACCEL, or is it too much hassle to fool with? Dan

The distributer you have looks like the ones I have seen on marine engines or power generators here in Canada.
I did a little checking on Ebay today and found this kit for Prestolite distributors. I am not sure if it will fit your particular one however asking the seller may get an answer.

marvWell marv, I think that is more guaranteed if I get a US style distributor + a Accel kit like Dan said, than buy a more expensive Petronix kit, without know if it's really gonna work, don't you think? Thanks! Lucas.

Log on to 1957 Ford.com the gentleman maintaining the site John Gambill has an ad on page 2 of parts for sale. He has a 57 distributor for 25.00. If that is gone log on to hemmings.com work your way to thunderbird parts click on 57 and the first ad in massachussetts guy named Bruce has one as well. Check snowbird312@yahoo.com this guy has everything Y Block and cheap too. He is in Arkansas.

Before you go buying another distributer you should check that the US 57 up distributer will replace it.
If you can give us some information we could use to compare we could give you a pretty complete answer.
Is that engine a USA mfg or South American.
Information needed;
number teeth on the distributer
length of distributer from flange above o-ring to gear and to end of shaft.
oil pump drive shaft diameter is it 1/4 inch hex or 5/16 hex shaft as later Ford engines used
I would hate to see you spend money on something that will not fit.

Good news! I found a guy here, that does a job (transform) my distributor into a hall eletronic ignition, using parts of others distributors, and he asked like 150 dollars to do it, so I asked him to do one for me, since I was planning to spend 40(distributor)+30(Accel 2020)+50(shipping)+ taxes and using a US style distributor, with no parts to rebuild/replacement here in BR... So I gess it's a good deal... But, he asked 3 weeks to do it, because he works with this just as a hobby, and he is adding buyers to do 10 distributors at once... I thank you all very much! You were very helpful! If any of you need anything from down here just ask! I will post some pics and a vídeo when the engine runs with no points distributor around... Lucas.

Thats good. At least when using your old distributer you know it will fit . The Prestolite's I have around are a very quality part so a plus there.
Cost as you said is going to be similar. Keep us informed as to progress.
