Looking at the back end of the starter, it needs to turn counter clockwise to crank your Y block the right direction.

Why don't you hit it with some voltage and see which way it turns ?

Does either state the perspective? Clockwise from the front will be counter-clockwise from the rear.

This will sound like a stupid question but here goes. I am installing a NAPA remanufactured starter motor on a 1956 Crown Victoria with a 292 Y-block. The starter test report on this motor states that the rotation is clockwise. The Ford (C1AZ-11350-A) starter drive says that its rotation is counter-clockwise.
So, my stupid question is does the starter drive spin opposite of the starter motor spin?
Thanks, Danny
