Did some searching here on headers. Lots of research by lots of good people. Sanderson looks good. Mummert has a set but I don't see a price on his website. Reds don't seem to be much better than stock manifolds. I currently am running a set of Hedman's from the '50s that aren't much better than stock manifolds. Hope to get the engine finally fired up after a lengthy restoration and engine rebuild in the next week or two. Engine has aluminum heads, factory dual quads, sharp roller rockers, custom Isky cam. It is pretty much a copy of an engine that Ted built and was featured in Y Block Magazine a few years back. He pulled around 420 horsepower out of it as I recall. I'm thinking on going with Sanderson. More concerned with open header drag strip performance than street. Just looking for opinions and if there is a better option that is available at this time. I will be switching headers after I get it running and sorted out. Winter project.

If you're looking for open header performance, I think an equal length like Mummert sells would be the better choice. I have Sandersons on my 'Bird, but they exit in the engine compartment rather than under the car. It works well for street but it seems like when open they would add heat to under hood heat as well as lowering available fresh air. I believe that Miker has the Mummert style on his 55 and will give more information about them soon. If you want a picture of installed Sandersons, send me your email and I'll shoot you a picture of the installation.

Mummert's T. Bird specific headers are made by Ford Power Train Applications. His site includes a contact name & phone #.

The FPA T-Bird header is the best off-the-shelf header available for a Y-block. Too bad it only fits T-Birds.

This old man's memory is coming back since you guys refreshed it for me. Couldn't recall the FPA info for some reason. Will look it up again. As I recall they were around $800 the last time I checked but were supposed to be the best. Thanks.

I've had a set of FPA headers for years, they're built just down the road from me. Ted ran them on the dyno, and I think he added them to the ex.manifold test section if you dig far enough. They are a first class product.
