If You want to have a look at VC-223 and see if it is what will work on your Distributor there are all Kinds on Ebay.

Ian - I think Mark and I have the later edition Motorcraft point plate (and mine is actually an electronic Duraspark II version). The replacement vacuum control parts we are referencing are made by a company named "STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS" - and the one I've got on the T-bird is a "VC-223". The operating linkage extending into the distributor is a formed flat  - not a wire rod.

Have you come across a replacement that looks like this? It can be disassembled and re-shimmed.

"Allen" and hex key wrenches are one and the same in my world - so no joy there.....  These are the instructions from the STANDARD parts box

Thanks again Steve. So before I posted in the forum I stuck several different sized allen wrenched into the end of my vac advance can and it didnt seem to grip anything to turn. I maybe have tried 5 different sizes. I have not tried a hex however. I'll see what I can get this evening after work. Sadly i think mine may not be adjustable. I would think the hex key would have come with it correct? thanks again for the help.

Many of the replacement stamped steel housings have the hex shape - but don't have the original removable end I tried to describe.

The type that adjust with a hex key wrench (1/8 or 3/32) - you insert the hex key down the hose opening and engage a socket screw inside. They can be pretty stiff - so use force judiciously...... They also work sort of counter-intuitively - clockwise adds advance (unloads the spring) and counter-clockwise stiffens it up.

MArk and Steve thanks for the reply. I have an isky street cam. nothing real crazy. its the stock dizzy but I have pertronix. the original vac can on the dizzy was shot so I got a replacement from napa. it does have a very lary hex shape to the part of the body by the vac nipple where the line connects. is that the whole thing that unscrews? what do i need to do to take some advance out of it? thanks
