  Just came to me, that yellow is what most junk yards use to make parts...
One other thing I don't know about these or this transmission is  was it a column shift or floor shift? I guess that really does not matter now

Dave.... Sorry ( old reader ) you were looking for numbers ID.... If # are stenciled ... Most likely factory... Hand written I would think junk yard.... Did not see your original pic.

Dave ... Most 292 non overdrive cars came with the Ford built 3 speed. 9 bolt square side cover. Like pic...

   I just pulled the manual transmission off the back of my 292, I have posted pictures of it
before.
   I see a  painted on marking on the top  9T 48     It's yellow so could be from a junk yard
Do any of you know what they might indicate?
