Did anyone else see the 2015 YouTube with John Kasse, running a Yblock
He used a scruby dual quad intake, saying it was almost a perfict fit to the Y block heads.
did not the Y block debut a year before scruby's V8

Run a search, there was a lot of comments about the engine masters challenge.

Putting that scuby manifold on was easy. A set of John's aluminum heads, 40 lbs of aluminum welding rod, who knows how many hours of machining time. Hell, Kasse might have made them into hemi heads if he felt like it.

Yes, 1954, the 239 and the 256 IIRC. The 265 was 55.

Jon did what it took to win.

The SBC intake is far from a perfect fit.  The ports are generally in about the right location.  That is about it.  In addition to the extensive head / port modifications, adapters were used to fit the manifold.

This year, there may be a Y specific, modern dual quad manifold available.  Hopefully we will get to see how that works out.

About the release date of the Y-Block being a year earlier than the SBC engine. Can't remember the source, but apparently Ford wanted to introduce the new engine in 1953 for the companies 50th anniversary, however production issues prevented that from happening..

The   Korean WAR   caused  material shortages but because the introduction was postponed  the engine that was released   for the 1954 model year war  a lot more trouble free  than  the small block scruby  that was new for 1955!

I would have thought he would have tried to get a set of those South American heads to use with that intake.

Those heads have sbf type ports.  Not even close to fitting the sbc intake.  And they simply are not worth anything for performance.  Mummert heads are currently the only thing to use in a competition like this in order to be competitive.
