The time has come to get new tires for our 56 Sunliner. I know the car originally came with 670 size tires, with 710's coming on the Fairlane Victoria. (Im going to get the Coker WW radials that have a bias ply look/shoulder)
If I look at the specs on line, the only real difference seems to be the listed Tire Section width. The 670 is listed at 6.59", and the 710 is t 7.7" The outside diameter is only different by 0.03", tread width is the same, rim size is fine, etc.
So I assume the 670 would look narrower/less "bulged out", and more like an original bias ply tire? Would the 670 look more "correct"?
Last time I bought WW radials from Coker, they recommended the 710's, which is what is on there now, and I always thought they looked a little too much like a modern radial, as the sidewalls bulged enough that the wire basket hubcaps rubbed on the whitewall (and made a squeaking sound from the baskets). Would there be any noticeable difference in ride/driving characteristics?
Car is now used mostly for local cruising and Concours events, so we want it to look as correct as possible.
Not looking to start a debate about coker vs diamonback, etc. Ive had several sets of cokers and they have been good.
Thoughts?
