My 56 merc I had my automatic transmission oil changed using Type F, cleaned screen. It shifts good when cold, after it warms up to normal it hesitate and shifts. The book calls for Type A. Did I screw up by using Type F?

The correct replacement for "A" is one of the Dextron Fluids. However I changed mine to "F" same as You. Is the Throttle Pressure control Rod adjusted to the correct Length?

Questions? Does the 56 fordomatic have a drain plug on the torque converter? If you can drain it and the trans pan, how many quarts of typeA should you pour in for initial start up and after starting should you immediately start adding fluid.
All my modern transmissions I did only the pan but I want do this one complete if I can thanks.

My 56 Merc drained through filler tube connection on pan, there are 2 plugs in the torque convertor 180 degrees apart remove both so it will drain. I removed the pan and cleaned  the filter when I put Type F in.
