Hey guys i arrived at the Charolette auto fair Friday, first vendor i saw was a y-block guy, i bought a adapter for my manifold that would adapt a new carb. Then i told him i was looking for an intake manifold for a 57, he said i have one but i have it priced so high that nobody would pay what i want, i asked his price and he said $200:00, i looked at it, when i went back Saturday, i asked him if he would take the carb adapter back , i would buy the manifild for thr $200.00 price, he said hd really didnt want to sell it but he did so im hopefully on my way to getting my 55 lined out, im going to put a new hollly 390cfm an a electronic distributor , anyone got an tips to help me make the transition easier and less problens. I have done this Swap on mine. Use a 1" Phenolic Spacer under the Carb. Don't install the Carb directly onto Manifold. Too much direct heat Transfer to Carb. If the Carb is the electric Choke Type run a Hotwire from the Ignition Switch Terminal which is live when the Key is in the "run" Position after the Car starts. When the Key is released after it Starts. Also install an inline Fuse (20A) Holder before the Terminal on the Choke Cap. When You get the Carb check the main primary Jets for Size. 54  is a good starting Point. When I got mine it had 46 Jets which are too small. I assume You are switching Distributors? Not sure what You are going to be using but you will need a new Cap and Rotor if not included. I think you will be very happy with the improvement in driveability with this change. Initial timing should be around 6-8 Degrees to start off.

If you are still using the 55 heads I think you will end up with a miss match with the port sizes, the 57 manifold has larger ports. I know people do this and I don't know how much effect it has. I use a 390 Holley also and went up two jet sizes.

Do you have a distributor preference?
