Has anyone adapted a 350 Holly 4 barrel carb to a stock 1955 intake on a Ford Fairlane? I'm fed up with the teapot.

Carburetor adapters are readily available from many manufacturers.  Speedway Motors, maybe even Summit or Jegs.  You will also need to replace the distributor with a '57 or newer one.  The stock distributor will not work with a newer carb.

I needed the same thing 4 yrs ago and at that time Rock Auto had the rebuilt, no exchange, and reasonable. Now it seems e-bay lists them needing rebuilt. The one I bought was fine but not long after the condenser failed (made in China). Replacement failed also, so a Pertronics was installed and problems were solved. When you consider both a dist. and a carb. at the same time it's a little pricey especially when u need to work with the fuel lines, linkage, electric choke, and possibly a new air cleaner. Good luck.

Mg..-  Just to ensure everyone is on the same page, you are referring to a 272  with the optional 4 Bbl  power pack carburetor ?  Reason for asking is, I've seen an incorrect reference to the standard  2 bbl carb as a Teapot..

The T=Pot is newly rebuilt, I have owned the car for 8 years and have had idling issue ever since I bought it, that's why I got a new carb and it didn't make a difference , I have a friend that is going to take the distributor out and make sure everything is on #1 top dead center and we are going to go over the vacuum line to see if we can solve the problem. It use gas like you wouldn't believe, that's why I want to change the intake and the distributor if it will solve my problem so I can enjoy my car.

If the problem exists with 2 different carbs, then it's probably not a carb problem.

I don't know if there is a good way to trouble shoot a load-o-matic distributor but if it is even half as old as the car, it's probably time for a rebuild or replacement.  The later distributor will work fine with the Tea pot.  You simply either plug the vacuum advance altogether or use a manifold vacuum source for the vacuum advance on that unit.  You do not use the same vacuum source as the load-o-matic.  So, the options there are rebuild the original, or go ahead and replace it with the newer unit.

Another thing is the crank damper.  The damping mass slips over time, resulting in incorrect initial timing.  That can affect idle quality and fuel mileage.  At 61 years old, it's about time to have that damper rebuilt.  You can trouble shoot this in a way by advancing the timing and seeing if the situation improves.

My 292 got 12 mpg with one 4 barrel and 11 mpg with 2 four barrels... Since it's a weekend car with mostly in town driving I accept it..especially with 10-15% ethanol..
