Don't know about the 55 but on my 57 the rear sway bar prevents the axle from dropping far enough if only jacket up on one side, jacking up both side works, sort of a PITA if you plan on removing the wheels very often or out on the road and need to change a flat.

I had to put extentions on the rear shocks on my car. The KYB shocks I bought wouldn't let the rear suspension fully drop when jacked up.

Don't know the answer to the sway bar question, but the original problem with clearance, may be related to the Shock Absorbers on your car. Apparently, one or more companies list shocks for mid 50s Fords, that are actually shorter than the originals, leading to clearance issues.

Interesting question. Hope someone who knows will give an answer. Hadn't thought about the tire/axle movement when changing a tire with a rear sway bar. -Dave

On my 55 with 205x75x15 tires on 6inch rims, If I need to take a rear tire off, I have to jack the car up by its frame so that the axle will hang down as far as it can to get the tire out /If I pull a rear sway bar on will it keep my axle from coming down as far? If you have a rear sway bar on Please let me know how it affected tire removal also got email from Quickor Grage this AM they are still in business his rear bar is a 3/4 inch ever one else's is a 1 inch I'm not sure which size would be best sense I'm not a road racer I'm thinking smaller would work better for me Jim
