Hello if a grooved cam bearing is used in the rebuild what cam is used the cross drilled cam or the grooved cam thanks for any reply

If the bearing is grooved on its O.D. or if the block itself is grooved behind the cam bearing, then either style of camshaft (grooved or cross-drilled) can be used. There is a move right now to have some cam blanks made without the grooved center journal which would promote a higher oil pressure at the center cam journal but these cams would require either a grooved cam bearing or a groove machined into the cam hole behind the center cam bearing. As it stands right now, there is a pressure drop at the center journal when a grooved camshaft is used which helps to explain why the center cam bearing wears much faster than the other four. This also supports why Ford went back to using the cross-drilled camshaft design for 1963 and 1964 in lieu of the grooved camshaft design that was used from 1956 thru 1962.

i always felt the cross drilled was a better idea in the long run because i never saw a 55 with an oiling kit.im sure their were a few but nothing like later ones.
