Hey Folks, been tracking down leaks and repairing a few issues with my '55 Montclair Merc-o-Matic tranny and in the process discovered that the bracket that secures the transmission dipstick tube to the engine is missing. Larry's T-Birds and Mac's stock a bracket for the mid 50's T-Birds but the tube for them is different and the bracket doesn't appear to cross over to the big Fords and Mercs. The original bracket "wrapped" around the dipstick tube but the end that secures it to the back of the engine or bell housing is a mystery. If anyone has a '55 or '56 Mercury and can tell me where the bracket bolts up to the engine then I can fabricate something that should come close to resembling the original. It seems like it would be pretty obvious as to where it would bolt up but not in this case and I can't find any photos that show it either. Thanks in advance for any help provided. Gary T

Hmmmm... Rusty on this. Seems like the bracket attached to the back or passenger side rear corner of the cylinder head. - Kind of the same idea as how the generator bracket mounts on the front passenger side front of the engine. Need a threaded hole... Somebody will chime in on this who knows.

Aren't they held in by one of the upper, side bell housing bolts?
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

It seems that there is only one threaded hole on one end of the cylinder heads and it gets reversed from right front to left rear when heads are bolted up so no threaded hole available for bracket mount. Also, there doesn't appear to be a bell housing bolt in close enough proximity to utilize for the bracket. I have looked as thoroughly as possible and felt around by hand and nothing appears close enough except for the extreme rear exhaust manifold bolt but even it doesn't seem likely and I've never seen anything mounted under those but heat shields. Could it be that there is a dedicated threaded hole that's covered up with years of road dirt on the back of the block? it seems that the big Fords would be the same but maybe not.
