Never use any type of gasket sealant on a carb gasket. Some people do but it's not advised. Heres a little trick I've used for many years just take a little oil on your fingers and kind of rub it on both surface sides of the gasket, don't saturate it a little goes a long way. This helps seal plus it also helps the gasket not to stick if you have to remove the carb in the future. I do the same on all gaskets if I have to rebuild the carb. As I said it works for me. I used gaskacinch on the gaskets on my 3x2 rig, but I was fighting some fairly pitted bases and phenolic spacers on the 94s-normally the gasket itself is fine for me. The gaskacinch makes swapping a little more messy and will require a replacement almost always when pulling the carb. I imagine it's more a matter if the base is sealing well.

Is there a sealant that will hold up to gas? The silicone based sealants are not compatible with gas as far as I know.

I removed my tpot 4000 off my 272 ford fairlane, the gasket on the carb looks brand new without any wear on it at all but it didn't have any gasket seal on it, when I remount do I need to put gasket seal on the gasket? Sorry for such a question but as stated before I'm not a mechanic and appreciate this forum very much so thanks in advance Mike Cook - Princeton, West Virginia
