anyone have any recommendations on a water pump for my 56 Crown Vic (312)? I've found a "hi-flow" for $169.00 is it worth the extra $$$ or should i replace with a stock pump

The stock pump works great for most applications.

Be sure that the high flow water pump you are looking at is not specific for a 1955-1957 Thunderbird.  The T-Birds have a 1” spacer behind the water pump and the high flow water pumps sold for those have modified impellers that will not work on the non-Thunderbird 1” spacer equipped engines.  As Charlie mentions, the standard water pump works for most Y applications.
