My brother-in-law can make all of you feel better. They were on wheat harvest and he took a flatbed truck to town to get gas for combines. He filled a 250 gallon tank and headed back. About 3 miles from town he ran out of gas in the truck. Cussed himself for not getting gas in truck while he was there and started walking back to town. Got about 2/3 of the way back and then realized he had 250 gallons of gas, a nozzle and a pump on truck. Too embarrassed to go on to station and get a ride back, so he turned around and walked back to truck. By the time he got back to field a couple of combines were out of gas. Life can be hard. Ben

Larry, Don't feel bad, I ran out of fuel in my 302 powered Model A, years ago, about half track at Grand Bend Raceway. The only saving grace about it was I was racing a scrub powered Model A and still coasted to the finish line ahead of him! He thought I broke when I asked him for a ride back to the pits to get a gas can! LOL
I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning!

With friends like you guys, who needs gas. Next time I run out I'll give you a call, how long will it take you to get to Pa. to help push ?

I prefer to look at it as a learning experience. I was not going to pipe in but my first time out with the race bird this year I put in 3 gallons of fuel, drove 100 yards to get teched, made a run, ran out of gas at the #1 spot in the staging line for my second run. Good news was there were plenty of guys to push me out of their way. I now know it takes a lot of fuel to fill an empty fuel system, I never gave that a thought before.

Larry. No need to feel bad about running out of fuel. I’ve not only run out of fuel going down the race track, I’ve done it more than once. On the flip side of that, I haven’t managed to run out of fuel on an elimination run yet though so I feel I’m not doing too bad in that department. As long as the race car runs out of fuel far enough down the track to at least coast off to the return road, it’s not too embarrassing.

Turned the gasser into a no-gasser right there on the street! Today you're embarrassed. In a couple years it'll be one of your favorite stories.

Look at it this way, Larry. People that never do anything don't have anything to write about. Case in point. IF you hadn't been in the show, you wouldn't have run out of gas! Always look on the bright side, too. You weren't in the middle of nowhere when you ran out! Events like this make things memorable, too. -And that's a GooD thing... Keep doing what you're doing. You'll be fine! Regards,

No, just the latest in a long list of dum ass things I've done. I should write a book but it would be to long. Larry Short
