Anyone here use Mummerts T5 adapter on a 55-56? I am planning on doing the swap this winter after I get rid of the 6 cyl. It looks like a pretty easy swap but what crossmember is used? I assume the stock bell and pressure plate are retained and just the clutch disc is changed. Am I on the right track in my thinking or way off?

I have the adapter in my 56 Victoria. You will need a clutch disc only which you can also get from John Mummert. As far as the tranny mount I have an S10 tailshaft housing on mine for shifter clearance with the bench seat and had to lower the original tranny crossmember about 1 1/2" and add a short piece of angle iron to connect the tranny mount to the crossmember. Was really pretty easy. Good luck Dave V

Do you feel that the s10 conversion was needed? I would like to stay away from that to simplify things if possible.

If you haven't already done it, run a search here and over at the HAMB on T-5's. There are a lot of variations of them. Some are bullet proof, and some will grenade behind a stock 292. Part of the problem is everyone refers to them as "T-5's", when they really were different transmission. Gearing, torque rating, shifter location, etc. Also check the Tremec site for the current products.

As stated by others, there are a lot of different T-5's out there. I have a 1989 T-5 in my 56 Customline, but made sure about what I was buying by checking the ID numbers on the tranny. Here is a chart that will help identify what tranny and gear ratio's you have; http://www.britishv8.org/Articles/Borg-Warner-T5-ID-Tags.htmI did use a Centerforce clutch disk and pressure plate on my set-up as it allows for a much lighter clutch pedal. The one you want is the z code 1352-251 T5. The 1352-249 is reportedly the same trans. Originally came in the 1993 and prior Mustang Cobras. Used are tough to find but new ones are readily available at places like Modern Driveline, Summit Racing etc.

When I switched my car over from an automatic to a T-5 I used the stock T-5 transmission mount, I just had to flip the "C" channel cross member upside down!

The S10 tailshaft housing was needed for me due to my height ( 5' 5" ) and need the seat almost all the way forward. The original Mustang tailhousing had the shifter coming up under the front edge of the seat. Dave V

It's been around for a long time now, so you can get lucky and find one in a car but don't hold your breath. A potentially bad thing about the Z, given that it is more performance oriented, is that it has a real tall overdrive, for use with a shorter rear drive for a reasonable total overdrive ratio. A potentially good thing is that the brand new Z will probably be cheaper than having a worn out transmission rebuilt. A link to a chart, http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/09/t5swap/index2.shtml.

Shifter came with a reversable 1" offset adapter. I bolted a Hust stick (for a nostalgia look) to the B&M shifter and it cleared my bench seat by at least 4".
