I am wondering if anyone has a reasonable understanding of how the 1955 ford horn operates.  I have the original horn ring that has been previously disassembled.  It consists of the chrome semi circular horn ring with plastic center cap. Under the cap is the horn operating mechanism. This consists of an upper ring with three arms that secures the plastic cap.  The second ring is domed and makes contact with the wire coming up the center of the steering shaft.  On top of the dome on this second ring is a piece of foam rubber that seems to press up against the plastic center cap.  This ring floats on three nylon shoulder bushings.  The final ring has the three tabs that engage and secure the horn ring to the steering wheel and also contains the large spring that keeps pressure between the horn ring and the steering wheel.  Three screws secure the three rings to the horn ring.  My questions are:  Is the piece of foam rubber simply a spacer between the plastic center cap and the upper contact ring or is it an integral part of the horn operation?  The three shoulder bushings appear to have been installed with the larger diameter shoulder facing down, however I am not totally sure if this correct as they can either be installed up or down.  Finally, where is the electrical contact made? Obviously the second of the three rings must contact something when the chrome ring is depressed but I can't I can't see what it is.  Any help would be appreciated.
