ive rebuilt my 292 and im wondering if I should've went with a bigger cam, its bored .40 over and has ecz-c heads, has a b intake with 600 edelbrock, I rebuilt it with the stock cam and had the center journal ground to .035 like suggested,this motor is for my 1960 f100 short bed, it has a t98 4speed behind it, not looking for a racer but I do want it to sound good, don't know what a y sounds like so any help is appreciated

Summit Racing offers several good cams for reasonable price..... I, used the M-260 cam that Berry Cam services ground for me. It has .433 lift @50 and 268 degrees of duration.... This cam was offered in '56 for the passenger car fords with the "power pack" option "twin 4bls" (mercury too I, believe) The point is this cam offers good low-mid range power with a decent sound at Idle. It's not "lopey" It will run with a stick shift or automatic set-up. You can always rework the exh. system for a nice rumble... I drilled a 1" hole from one end of the muffler to the other....an older friend did this to his Skyliner....Nice trick! I've gotten comments on how nice the car sounds.... I'm planning to use a higher lift cam for my T-bird... .447 lift with 266 degrees of duration.... Good luck to you

Since the vast majority of older trucks are no longer used as trucks, I think it is always good to go up at least a step or two on the cam and that may not even impact it's useability as a truck. If the engine has not yet been started and is not yet installed in the truck, then it should be a pretty easy job to swap the cam. If it has already been started and run in, then you may just want to see how you like it, first.

I still like the repo of the factory blower cam. Ran one in an otherwise stock 312 in a '57 Wagon and in my '57 Bird for some time and really liked it for a street car. Slight rumble at idle and somewhat better performance but totally drivable.

has anyone used mummerts cruise night special camshaft with new springs, thinking about ordering this if it works well with what I have Airman, I used Mummerts Cruise Night Special (Y-284-S) in my new Y and it sounds great! Not to mention we basically got 300HP / 310 ft lbs of torque! (see my post here "Christmas Came Early)
