Have any of you run a dual quad system on a 292/312 with progressive linkage with the rear carb being the principle carb? If so; what manifold did you use? I know the 56 Nascar and 57 Ford unit ran both carbs and mounted backwards. A friends Cadillac does this also but Chebbie 245/270's were single operation a low/cruise speed.I've researched this question but could not find an answer. Working with Ted's 2-4 barrel performance info and emailing him about trying it on a Edelbrock 257 manifold. I've proved the ports in the manifold are open front to rear and side to side from the factory. I am getting close to installing one and hope one have you have done what I'm asking. I saw a setup like this on E-Bay about a year a go with Carter/Edelbrock AFB's but unknown how it worked...........Thanks

I have not tried this, but my thought would be that the carb with the primary bores closest to the center of the manifold should be the primary carb. Good luck.

The Edelbrock 7094 Dual Quad Linkage instructions go over the installation with the rear carb as the primary carb which makes sense because of what John said.

I am using dual Edlebrock #1404's on a Edlebrock #257 manifold in my 56 Customline. I had to use a "Trans-Dapt" adapter (spacer) between the carb base and manifold and port matched the manifold to the adapter. I'm using progressive linkage with the rear carb as the primary carb and everything works pretty well.

I have dual WCFB's on a FM257 and have tried both progressive and straight linkage. I have settled on the straight linkage. Mine would idle like crap after an extended highway run when it hooked up progressively. Other than that no appreciable difference. It's 060 over 312, milled ECZ-G heads, C camshaft (I think) and an old Holley dual point full mechanical distributor. Tranny is an early 60's CruiseOMatic. It has 3.00 9-inch. Great highway machine although I have my suspicions about the distributor...I'm thinking about stabbing the vacuum advance original back in to see if that improves low speed manners.

I'd appreciate a description of how a 2x4 set-up works when the carbs are set-up to open progressively.
I'm thinking that the engine runs on the primaries of one carburetor, then based upon throttle plate position the primaries on the second carburetor begin to open.
I'm guessing that the secondaries of either carburetor will not begin to open until both carburetors are at the same primary throttle plate position so that they both have the same vacuum signal to activate the secondaries.
Verification or alternate explanation would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks guys this was the info I was looking for.
Brodie 55 and Rono if you two could take pictures of your linkage that would be great. I think the Edelbrocks make it pretty easy if set up is like the 245/270 HP GM's. I think I have my linkage figured out. The lead carb will will run from about 1/4 to 3/8 throttle on the front barrels of the rear carb before the second one (front) starts. The hole will be drilled in my linkage when I hold them both wide open. A Corvette type slider will do.
Brodie55 i would like to know which WCFBs you are using, I'm assuming they are small base. I'm planning on those also. Funny that you had trouble with the rear on idle after sustained cruising. I have had some problem with that using just a single one on my "A" manifold currently.
My E-257 manifold is ready along with the one carb I'm currently using. The second carb is due back from the restorer/rebuilder very soon. He has a long lead time and every carb is test run.
No Shortcuts: If you cannot fine a 245/270hp Corvette from 57 to 61 Look on ebay for their intake/carb set originals run big buck and closes about half but they do show the linkage and how the front carb is lower on the front carb arm to make them work correctly. Doning this on a Ford takes a little enginuity (like my spelling?) because the arms on a Ford linkage are shorter and don't pull straight back. Once again thanks.
PS: as a side note I discussed this with Ted and my first running of the engine will be with the rear carb only with a plate where front one goes to see how every thing operates.......

Progress on what I am doing seems slow. I always wanted dual quads but got kinda stuck with a 3-2 set up after I had helped a guy get one ready for his Y... I was sure a progressive set up would work bet need here it and this site is a fountain of knoweldge....Thanks again

I have ran a 255 and a 257 with progressive linkage for around 50 years with the rear carb as the primary with no issues. I had two carter 500 CFM Carter carbs with a home made linkage setup on a mild 292/312 with the 255 intake. Presently I have a 257 with two 600 CFM Edelbrock carbs that has Edelbrock progressive linkage which I have ran progressively but presently I have them locked together. Like Rono said, e-mail me and I can send pictures.
