Carl. Sounds like you’ve been lucky for thirty years. I was pulled over in New Mexico last year for speeding but the officer let me off with a warning when he saw the Flathead V8 in the back of the truck. Felt sorry for me?

Carl, consider yourself lucky. Here in West Oz we have stupid anti Hoon laws which mean that if you exceed the speed limit by 40km/h the boys in blue impound your car for a month, charge you over $2000 for the privilege of them looking after your car and then fine you up to $1000 and whatever term the magistrate deems appropriate. Your speed is 9 mph lower than the point where we get this treatment, but 15mph over the limit is $400 and jumps up to $850 at 18mph over the limit. You got off lightly but it always seems such a waste as you immediately think what better use you could give that money.

So, in the Peoples Republic of Washington (state), they impound the car over 100mph. Seems the heavy money from our high tech area likes to try the Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, etc. on I-90, headed for the pass. They've had a couple at 150.
Now, pulling into the local free show and shine at WalMart, they got me for $124. Pulled in, parked across the parking lines, and answered my cell phone. Motorcycle hiding behind the Goodwill trailer. When I pulled into the back lot, after everyone drove by and waved at me, all were disappointed it wasn't for lighting them up. Chicken what? That's 3 tickets in nearly 50 years.

As Rick said, it's a lot tougher back home. They have cameras that they place in random positions and will fine you if you get flashed at 3mph or more over the speed limit. Under 6 mph it starts at $75 and goes up rapidly from there.

South Australia's highest court has upheld the Government's anti-hoon laws after they were deemed unconstitutional last year. Under the state's Forfeiture Act, the cars of people charged with repeat driving offences can again be seized by police and either sold or crushed.

We had two sporty types chased through Nashua, New Hampshire yesterday at 132mph on a busy highway. State trooper took notice when they passed him on both sides and his car "rocked". Caught one the other got away for now. High speed rice burners! Chuck

I had to google it - hoon, that is. I wanted to know what I was talking about before I chimed in - pro or anti.
