Those silver cork gaskets are notorious for shrinking big time over time.  You may be able to soak them in water for a few days and restore them to original size.  I once had a box of 10 and ended up cutting some in two lengthwise and gluing them together to make them long enough.  Wasn't worth the effort.  Threw the rest of them away.

Thanks Dennis, I bought a box of valve cover gaskets years ago that were supposed to be Y-Block. They are the silver composition gaskets but are about an inch too short. I have no idea what they fit. Chuck
