Is the gravel shield between the front bumper and grill painted body color or silver? I've seen them both ways but wonder which is correct. Mine is painted silver.

I think Argent Silver is the correct color. Chuck

Thanks. It seemed to look better with it silver than others that were painted body color but then I'm used to it also.

I'd be curious to know what the correct type of silver it should be. I'm just not sure if mine has been repainted the right color.

As mentioned, Ford referred to the color as "Argent" silver. It's available from at least one spray can maker, and is sometimes used as a wheel paint. My 57 has a body colored splash panel, but I know it's not correct.

Is the color more of a generic Argent like Ford used on some later model plastic grills or does someone manufacture the correct color?

DJ: I doubt that even a concours judge is going to know the difference.. however, VHT sp-168 wheel paint is listed as matching Ford Argent Silver. Not happy with that? try Eastwood #1291Z Argent wheel paint..

No, I'm not looking for judging. I just like look to see if OE spec is available before using something that is "close enough".
My philosophy is why settle for something close if original is available.

I've always used the Argent Silver.  Last number I have is PPG8568.  If you want it to sparkle a bit more follow it up with a satin-gloss clearcoat.
