I found these articles by Doc on webrodder.com under Y-Block Ford. I didn't read all the articles but will eventually. How about the one on block prep where two holes are drilled between 2&3, 6&7 cylinders to help with cracked heads? What does anyone know about this fellow?

Doc Frohmader wrote the only really definitive rebuild & modify series on Y-blocks for Street Rodder Magazine in 1999. And essentially duplicated that series for Classic Truck Mag in 2001-2. However, both are now out of print.. If you are doing up a Y-block without prior experience, the magazines are definitely worth buying if you can find them.

I'll let some of the engine guru's have the final word, but I don't think the steam holes are a good idea any more.

Here’s are a couple of past discussions regarding steam holes. Additional threads can be found using various search terms in the search bar. You’ll find arguments both for and against the additional ‘coolant’ holes in the block and heads.

The Street Rodder magazine series of articles authored by Doc Frohmader in 1999 is a very good read for anyone wanting to cover the major aspects of building up a Y.
