If anybody wants to use the later small 1.64" intake valve heads, John Mummert has 1.84 " dia intake valves that fit them. Apparently 1.92" valves won't work on them.

I do have a 55 to 57 272 motor that came out of a 56 that I need to see what heads it has and I have two sets of those small valve 60 to 64 heads.

Here is one that I have at home, I think its a 7/16 stem (I should know but don't) I drill them out and install a cast iron guide.

Cliff.  What is the diameter of the sodium filled valve stems?  Do I recall 7/16 of an inch?

Still learnin'.  Thanks!   Smile

All of the ECR Heads (B,E,D and C) are sodium filled exhaust valves (large stems) and large chambers, I use these heads on blower motors, and are not listed on any of the charts that I have seen, most of the engines with them have been H/D 272 , they have 1957 size valves and ports even though they were released in 1956.

So how does the ECR-D heads compare to the Gs.

Jeff.  Hmmm...  Cliff is right.  The truck could have a set of these on it, too.  I have no info on these.  Everything I've chased has been passenger car.

Click below for the cylinder head chart put together by John Mummert.  The ECR heads are listed, but with no detail info.
http://www.ford-y-block.com/cylinderheadchart.htm

While you're looking down through JW's chart, notice how small the intake valves are on the '60 - '64 y-block cylinder heads.

If that's a heavy duty the heads should be ECR-D

Jeff.  Paul's steering you correctly.  On the '57 heads (and later) the letters (or numbers) are located adjacent to the intake manifold in the front and rear of each cylinder head where it bolts to the head.

If they are '57 heads, they will be large letter ECZ-G OR small letter ECZ-G heads.  The combustion chambers are the same for each species, the intake and exhaust porting was made with different sand molds.  -I wouldn't lose any sleep over which set you have.

Click the link below to see pictures of the large and small lettering as it appears on the heads.  Too, also notice the difference in how the letters are oriented in relation to the cylinder head deck surface.

Hope this helps.   Smile
