Last evening I was talking to a friend of mine, and he told me he has acquired a 317 from his late brother's estate. It was stuck, and his brother started taking it apart, got one piston out before his death. It's all there, carb to pan, stick flywheel, adaptor to pre-49 Ford gearboxes. It's free to anyone who wants to come to east central Indiana to get it. He didn't mention parting it out, just wants it gone and doesn't want to see it scrapped.

Thanks Royce. I emailed Rick right after I posted the notice. Interesting story about the engine. It was in a '40s Continental instead of the V12. A local collector had it and bought a new V12 in the crate to put in his Continental. The 317 was still in his shop when his estate auction was held, and my friend's brother bought it to put in his Model A hotrod. Unfortunately he passed away before that happened, so his brother ended up with it.

The 317 found a new home, and it's not in the local scrapyard. Rick Martin picked it up yesterday. He seemed pleased to get it. For those of you who don't know about Rick, he is an early Lincoln buff.
