As it sits right now I can hop in it and drive to California and everyone knows the saying if its not broke dont fix it,I have been seriously thinking about finding a 54 to 59 2 door sedan to build in a early 60s hotrod style with my 292 and toploader 4 speed so I am going to look for one over the winter and see what I can come up with. My girlfriend wants my 65 custom 500 4 door to race so I might let her do it and get me the 2 door sedan,my 65 is my iffy weather old car so I will build a 54 to 59 2 door sedan to replace it. What ever I find wont be mint as it will have to sit outside like the 65 does.

Another plan I have is to leave it alone for the time being and get my moneys worth of driving out of the present drivetrain and put it back close to original when I retire but is there going to be anyone alive in 15 years that will know anything about a Y block,I do have a 55 to 57 272 so I am going to look for a 55 FOM and rear end along with original spindles and front brakes and stash those parts in the shed until that time. I want to be able to drive it all over the country right now and not have to worry about parts availability so maybe when I get closer to retirement I will have a trailer I can haul it it,I am still not sure on what I want to do with it right now but a hotrod 54 with my 292 and one of my 4 speeds sounds good for a somewhat daily driver.

junkyardjeff (9/7/2013) As it sits right now I can hop in it and drive to California and everyone knows the saying if its not broke dont fix it,.......Jeff. My sentiments mirror yours when it comes to pulling out a good running engine and replacing it with something else even when the engine is not original to the car. It would appear that your next challenge is finding a car that is suitable for your next project that is both workable and affordable.

I think I could find a frame for the 65 convertible,as for my convertible I just dont have the money to build a Y block for now so I am going to run the 351 until something happens to it while collecting parts. I hope I can find a cheap 55 parts car to get all the parts I sold so if I decide to put it back original after I retire I will have the parts and wont have to look which will probably be a bit tougher to find.
